چکیده
UNLABELLED A 36-year-old female was hospitalized with symptoms suggesting intestinal occlusion. She was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater (pT4N0 stage) and underwent cephalic duodenopancreatectomy 8 months ago. Five cycles of postoperative chemotherapy were administrated using capecitabine and oxaliplatin (CAPOX or XELOX), the last one being completed 1 month ago. During the present hospitalization, because of normal computed tomography and ultrasound abdominal examination, rehydration and antibiotherapy were administrated. However, 4 days after hospital admission, the patient died. At autopsy and histological examination, we found a severe myocardial sclerosis with large scarring areas, severe steatohepatitis, chronic pancreatitis with large fibrotic areas, and acute enteritis. Alcohol consumption was denied. The patient died due to associated heart, liver and pancreatic failure. This multiorgan toxicity and death following CAPOX regimen had not yet been reported in the literature. INTRODUCTION Oral capecitabine is an oral prodrug of 5-fluorouracil that has been integrated into the management of multiple cancer types because of the convenience of administration and its efficacy compared with 5-fluorouracil. Capecitabine mimics the pharmacokinetics of intravenous 5-fluorouracil. While cardiac events associated with the use of 5-fluorouracil are a well-known side effect, ca...
متن کاملFamilial hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute necrotizing pancreatitis: A case report
Acutepancreatitis can infrequently be a life-threatening complication of hypertriglyceridemia. Rarely, hypertriglyceridemia can originate from an inborn genetic error in lipoproteins metabolism. This condition can be manifested by very high serum triglyceride levels (>1000 mg/dl) and a more severe and lethal form of pancreatitis. Here, we present a case of acute pancreatic which was found out t...

Along with several other pathomechanisms, rhabdomyolysis is a distinguished cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in pa...
